The University of Barcelona will host the 2026 edition of the DFBI Conference, an international meeting focused on the digital transformation of buildings and infrastructure. The event will address key technological advances, including Digital Twins, interoperability frameworks, openBIM standards (e.g., IFC), BIM integration with IoT, AR/VR applications and robotics, along with sustainable practices, data-driven decision-making and innovative construction methods aimed at improving design efficiency, quality assurance and resilience.

Under the theme Digital Business Models for a Sustainable Built Environment, the conference will explore how AI/ML, sensing and IoT systems, robotics, BIM and openBIM, interoperable data environments and Lean Management approaches are reshaping the way the built environment is designed, managed and operated. Particular emphasis will be placed on interoperability across the value chain, Lean and agile operations, and integrated digital platforms that support sustainable and modular construction. Participants can expect rigorous academic research, industry case studies and opportunities for collaboration between academia and professional practice.

Accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings indexed in Scopus. In addition, the conference will feature dedicated tracks linked to Q1 journals indexed in both Scopus and the Journal Citation Reports (JCR), with a particular emphasis on Technology and Operations Management, interoperability and openBIM, and business models for sustainable and modular construction

The conference will take place at the Faculty of Economics and Business, from 31 March to 1 April 2026. The deadline for submitting full papers is 28 February 2026, while registration will remain open until 15 March 2026.

This international event invites researchers, professionals and organizations to engage in discussions on digital transformation, interoperability, openBIM, Lean Management, productivity, resilience and sustainability in construction and infrastructure management.
