These frequently asked questions will solve  most common doubts.

I have been shortlisted for a placement, how do I accept it?

You must go to your personal space in the Mobility-Online SOP. In the ‘Assignment and acceptance procedure’ section, click on ‘Acceptance’ and you will be able to upload 3 documents in PDF or JPG format. Once you have uploaded the documents, click on ‘Create’ and the place will be accepted. You must upload the following documents:

Bank account (you must provide the IBAN and whether you are the account holder or co-holder). We ask you for the bank account in case you are granted the vicerrectorate travel grant.

If the UB awards me a placement, does this automatically mean that I will be accepted at my host university?

No. If the UB awards you a mobility placement and you accept it, we will inform you about the application process at the host university.

When will I be able to buy my plane ticket? And sort out my accommodation?

We always recommend that you do not make any arrangements until you receive the letter of acceptance from the host university.

As for accommodation, the host university does not always guarantee it, but they can provide you with information to help you find the accommodation that best suits you.

Does the University of Barcelona manage student accommodation?

No. It is the student’s competence to do so.

Does the acceptance of a mobility place imply direct funding?

No. Please consult the ‘Financial support’ tab to find out which financial support you should apply for.

Please note: The possibility of applying for financial support does not imply that you will be automatically awarded a grant.

What is the application deadline for funding?

You should consult the website of each call for applications for financial aid, which is where the deadlines are specified. In any case, we will let you know when the calls for applications open.

Does the order in which places are allocated and reallocated follow any criteria?

Yes, it follows criteria order indicated in base III of the call for applications for the UB Global Faculty programme.

How does reassignment work?

In case there are vacant places, they can be filled through the reallocation procedure. The selection committee of each centre may propose to reallocate a vacant place to a student who has not obtained any of the mobility places applied for and/or who has not accepted the place awarded in the provisional decision, provided that he/she fulfils the requirements established for that place and it belongs to the same programme to which he/she applied.

How will I know if I have been awarded a placement by reassignment?

It will be stated in the final decision that will be published on the website of the Mobility and International Programmes Office and you will have a period of time to accept it.

How many semesters is one placement?

One placement equals one semester. Therefore, two places are equivalent to one annual stay.

I have already been accepted for the Mobility-Online SOP, what should I do?

Once the place has been accepted, your faculty's ORI will send you the procedure for submitting your application to your host university.

Please note that places are subject to the calendar of the host university. As soon as the host university notifies you that the application process is open, you will receive an e-email from your faculty's ORI.

But when will I know approximately when I will be contacted?

The timetable varies depending on the host university.

Therefore, you should contact your faculty's ORI to find out approximately when you will be contacted and start the application process at your host university.

I am awaiting a place on another programme, does accepting the place automatically mean that I have to give up the other programme?

No. If you are in the situation of having applied for more than one mobility programme, you can now accept it, and if you are later awarded a place in another programme for the same periods, you can decide which of the two you want, or you can accept both, as long as the mobility periods do not coincide.

If I want to withdraw from the Global Faculty UB programme because I have accepted another mobility programme, will I be considered a justified withdrawal?

Yes, you will have to present a resignation document that you will find in your personal space of the Mobility-Online SOP. In this document, you must explain the reasons for your resignation.

Will I be able to contact students who will be going to the same university as me, in the same academic year?

Yes, we will contact you and, if you give your consent, we will provide you with their contact details.

Will I be able to contact alumni who have gone to the same university I will be attending?

Yes, once you have been accepted by your host university, you will be provided with the contact details of an alumnus or alumna, if there is one.

How do I know the actual dates of departure to my host university?

You should consult the academic calendar of your host university.

What do I do if my UB exams overlap?

It is up to the student to talk to the UB faculty and/or the International Relations Office (ORI) in order to reach an agreement, if necessary.

Please note: You cannot arrive late for the start of the course at your host university.

Do I have to apply for a visa?

It is up to the student to apply for a visa. You can start to apply for a visa when you receive the letter of acceptance. Contact the embassy or consulate beforehand to find out which documents you need to prepare in order to apply for a visa. Usually you will be asked for a letter of acceptance from your host university.

For destinations in the USA and Canada, it is necessary to apply for the visa in Madrid.

Please note:

  • There are embassies or consulates that ask for a financial justification to process the visa (South Korea, USA...).
  • There are embassies or consulates that, if the stay is less than 180 days, do not require a visa. Check with the embassy.
  • Sometimes, in order to apply for a visa, it is necessary to have medical insurance beforehand.
Attention: This is a procedure that must be done in good time. It is not recommended to leave it to the last minute.
