Medical, accident and repatriation insurance
Students who make a temporary stay at the UB must have medical, accident and repatriation insurance that covers, entirely, your stay at the UB.
Medical insurance
- Students from countries of the European Economic Area (countries of the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) who have the right to Social Security in their country of origin must apply for the European health insurance card, which is issued by the public health authorities of their country and gives the right to have the same healthcare benefits in Spain. In addition, you will need to contract accident and repatriation coverage.
- Students from countries that do not belong to the European Economic Area must find out if there is a medical agreement between your country's Social Security and Spain. If this agreement exists, you must contact the public health authorities of your country to process the corresponding document and, thus, have the right to health care benefits in Spain. In addition, you will need to contract accident and repatriation coverage.
- Students who do not fall into any of the above must contract a private medical insurance that covers your stay at the University of Barcelona. You must ask your insurer for a supporting document in English, Spanish or Catalan stating the aforementioned coverage.
- This insurance must have complete coverage, comparable to the benefits of the Spanish health system.
- Without grace.
- No co-payments.
- The Insurer must be authorised in Spain. The policy must be taken out with a company legally registered in Spain.
- Travel Insurance is not valid.
- In addition, you must contract coverage for accidents and repatriation.
If you need more information, you can contact the insurance company with which the UB has signed an agreement:
Accident and repatriation coverage
All students must have insurance with accident and repatriation coverage. This insurance can be contracted individually or by the institution of origin. You must ask your insurer for a supporting document in English, Spanish or Catalan stating the aforementioned coverage.
In any case, you have the option of taking out insurance (with the necessary coverage) with the insurance brokerage with which the UB has signed an agreement: Ferrer & Ojeda Asociados Correduría de Seguros, SL.
When you formalize your arrival at the UB, you must present a copy of your medical, accident and repatriation insurance.
