Why study at the UB

With more than 550 years of history behind it, the University of Barcelona (UB) has been synonymous of public service vocation and commitment to progress and innovation. The UB is ranked among the top 200 universities in the world in the main national and international rankings. We form part of numerous international networks, receive students from all over the world and offer more than a thousand placements to universities and research centres all over the world. It is the first university in Catalonia and the first Spanish university in the main international rankings. It is also a member of the League of European Research Universities (LERU) and coordinator of the Charm European University (CHARM-EU) alliance.

The UB has 17 faculties and 10 affiliated centres that offer quality teaching in a public, innovative, critical and pluralistic university. Our facilities are distributed over 7 campuses throughout the city of Barcelona and neighbouring cities, with almost 700,000 square metres of space at the service of students and researchers.

Every year we welcome more than 10,500 international students and some 400 researchers and visitors of more than 130 nationalities.

Among the services available to our community are 16 libraries, the Sports Service, complementary training (languages, lifelong learning, etc.) and a wide range of institutional and cultural activities.

We offer grants and scholarships for students and we have high employability rates.

We are an ethical university with integrity and solidarity, with volunteer activities and inclusive social policies.

We offer a complete, wide-ranging and varied curriculum, with 150 official university courses and over 500 UB-specific degrees to help you develop your professional career. We also offer 48 doctoral programmes if your vocation is research.

In addition, if you want to update your knowledge or learn at any age, you will find everything from university extension courses to the Universitat de l’Experiència.

The Student Services Office (SAE) is at your disposal to offer you all the information, advice and personalized support you need to enjoy university life to the full. From playing sports to volunteering, studying Catalan and other languages or applying for a grant, we have a whole organisation at your service.
