This research line contemplates the application of a wide of experimental sciences and new technologies to archaeology involving different disciplines. We focus on ancient cultures of Mesoamerica, with an emphasis on Central Mexico. Faculty and graduate students are currently conducting field research in the ancient city of Teotihuacan.

We work in a wide range of chronologies from Formative to Postclassic period with a particular interest in Classic and Epiclassic periods. The main goal of the archaeological research is to give insights into past complex societies of Mesoamerica and to understand political, economic, social, and urban diachronic transformations and their interregional interactions.

The research activity is carried out in a multidisciplinary environment, through the collaboration with other institutions and laboratories such as the Laboratorio de Prospección Arqueológica at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).
