Digital transformation is commonly described
Event Details
Digital transformation is commonly described in the Information Systems and management literature as an inevitable organizational trajectory, in which non-adoption is interpreted as failure, delay, or resistance to change. However, a growing number of studies examine situations in which organizations intentionally limit, postpone, or selectively implement digital technologies. This raises a disciplinary question: does this body of research represent isolated contributions or the emergence of a distinct research stream — here defined as digital refusal?
To address this question, we conduct a bibliometric analysis using the Bibliometrix package on 586 publications indexed in Web of Science (1992–2026) in the Management category. By combining analysis of annual scientific production and thematic mapping (co-word analysis), the study examines both the temporal evolution and the conceptual structure of the literature.
The results show a non-linear evolution: early studies on non-use and the digital divide are followed by gradual consolidation and rapid expansion after 2020. The thematic map highlights a strongly asymmetric field. A dominant paradigm continues to interpret digital technologies as drivers of innovation and performance, while sustainability research mainly emphasizes efficiency improvements. By contrast, studies on minimization, selective design, and limitation of automation remain peripheral but clearly emerging.
Rather than merely documenting organizational practices, the study reveals a conceptual shift in the academic debate: digital technologies are increasingly regarded not only as solutions to be implemented, but as socio-technical choices to be evaluated. The paper’s contribution lies in mapping the emergence of a research stream that interprets non-adoption as a potential form of technological governance, suggesting a shift from digital transformation to digital moderation.

Event Details
Abstract: This seminar presents two studies on the determinants of financial resilience and subjective financial well-being. The first examines how different dimensions of financial knowledge—objective, digital, and subjective—affect financial behaviour and financial resilience. Using data from a nationally representative sample of 1,096 adults from the 2022 UNSA Survey of Adult Financial Literacy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the analysis applies regression and mediation techniques. The results show that the effect of objective financial knowledge on financial resilience is primarily transmitted through financial behaviour, subjective financial knowledge, and digital financial knowledge, highlighting the importance of behavioural and confidence-related channels. The second study focuses on the measurement and determinants of subjective financial well-being. It proposes a refined conceptual framework incorporating socio-economic conditions, capabilities, and digital inclusion, and provides evidence from an emerging economy in comparison with OECD/INFE benchmarks. The findings suggest that debt is not the main channel shaping subjective financial well-being; instead, financial resilience and perceived financial control play a more central role. Overall, the research underscores the need for integrated policy approaches combining financial education, digital and financial inclusion, and labour market policies to enhance financial well-being.

The research seminar will focus on the application of portfolio theory to estimate systematic risk in agriculture in the Slovak Republic, as a case study. The given procedure can also be applied to other sectors, not only agriculture. The introduction of the research seminar will be devoted to the presentation of Slovak agriculture (area, farm structure and their comparison with Spain).

Abstract: The literature on corporate governance
Event Details
Abstract:
The literature on corporate governance has highlighted the importance of board characteristics related to firm innovation. However, empirical findings have not been totally conclusive, and some seem contradictory. Adopting a new perspective, we have tried to help resolve the puzzle using a meta-analysis that integrates findings from 96 previous studies to analyze the relationship between board attributes, grouped by their relation to structural or demographic diversity, and firm innovation for the period 1988–2018. The results suggest that certain aspects of boards, such as meeting frequency and the proportions of independent directors and outsiders, show the most significant correlations with firm innovation, but the levels of association vary depending on whether innovation is measured as inputs or outputs and depending on the sample considered and the methodology employed. Finally, general guidelines are suggested regarding practical implications and future research.

Event Details
This seminar presents an integrated research trajectory on digital transformation and intelligent decision-making, with a particular focus on the transition from Industry 4.0 to Industry 5.0. Building on prior work on maturity models and fuzzy rule-based decision-support systems, the talk highlights the limitations of technology-centric and efficiency-driven transformation approaches.
The seminar argues that contemporary operations and supply chains require prescriptive socio-technical frameworks capable of integrating digitalization, sustainability, and human-centric principles. Selected high-impact research studies are discussed to illustrate context-specific maturity assessment and integration mechanisms under Industry 4.0.
The presentation then introduces an ongoing postdoctoral research agenda aimed at developing an Industry 5.0 reference model using a Design Science Research approach that combines literature review and empirical validation through case studies. The expected contributions include theoretical advances in socio-technical systems, practical decision-support tools for organizations, and evidence-based guidance for policy and regional development strategies.

ABSTRACT
Purpose – This paper explores the mediation of experts and accounting technologies in the construction of modern slavery and, thus, its subsequent discharge of responsibility.
Design/methodology/approach – The paper draws on Beck’s ideas of risk society fragmentation between experts with the authority to make risks visible and citizens without this authority (1995, 2007/2009). This division leads to risks that are constantly disputed between a variety of experts and technologies that mediate the discharge of responsibility (Beck, 1995). The paper performs a content analysis of the modern slavery statements of the largest supermarkets in the United Kingdom and Australia, where modern slavery disclosure is mandatory.
Findings – The results shows that alliances act as experts mediating the construction of modern slavery. Furthermore, these experts use several accounting technologies for this mediation. The contribution of this research is twofold: (i) at a theoretical level, the paper highlights the relevance of the dispute between a variety of experts and technologies in the construction of modern slavery risks that lead to ambiguous definitions; and (ii) at an empirical level the study explores the mediation of accounting in the construction of modern slavery in a regulated context. We argue that this mediation obscures the discharge of responsibility.
Research limitations/implications – The study is limited to the supermarket industry, responses to UK and Australian regulation and the information disclosed by largest companies only. Thus, future studies could expand the focus to consider other industries, stakeholders and institutional contexts.
Practical implications – This study’s findings help managers in their choice of modern slavery recognition and assessment approaches.
Originality/value – This paper provides the first comprehensive assessment of the mediation of experts and accounting technologies in the construction of risks related to modern slavery.

Abstract
This seminar proposes a critical dialogue on what it means to theorize today, at a time when science is facing a crisis of credibility. We will examine how widely adopted research practices shape the development and accumulation of knowledge, and how these practices relate to the current crisis of credibility. Beyond issues of credibility, management theory has long been criticized for its limited relevance to pressing societal and organizational challenges. Building on this diagnosis, the seminar critically revisits dominant prescriptions for theory building in management. Finally, we will explore pathways toward research that meaningfully addresses both the current crisis of credibility and the enduring crisis of relevance in management studies.
